Managing Absence

A programme to develop the Manager's knowledge and skills in reducing absence levels, increasing motivation and organisational performance.

Overview:
An appreciation will be given of the financial costs of an organisation's absence as a spur to action. Absence management policies and procedures will be examined. Communication and employee involvement will also be explored as well as the relevant law. The behavioural aspects of handling return to work interviews and discipline are dealt with through role play and feedback.

Who should attend?
Line managers, supervision and H.R. team members responsible for managing absence.

Course Duration
1 day. This course is run both as an in-company and open programme.

Course Objectives:

To enable delegates:-

•  To understand how to cost absence and to be aware of methods for measuring, analysing and understanding the underlying causes of absence levels.
•  To appreciate why clarity about roles and responsibilities is so important
•  To examine absence management policies and procedures
•  To appreciate the need for accurate employee records
•  To have a good view of the various methods available for managing absence
•  To understand the seven step approach to successful absence management
In addition the following areas will be covered:-
•  Handling short and long term absences
•  The role of Occupational Health
•  The role of Rehabilitation
• 

The law covering the Disability Discrimination Act, Health and safety, Unfair Dismissal and Contract Frustration, Harassment and Dignity

•  Stress cases
•  Sick notes
•  Return to work interviews and self-certification

The sessions will be highly participative involving case studies and role plays.
